Continuum surface energy from a lattice model
نویسنده
چکیده
We investigate certain connections between the continuum and atomistic descriptions of deformable crystals, using some interesting results from number theory. The energy of a deformed crystal is calculated in the context of a lattice model with general binary interactions in two dimensions. A new bond counting approach is used, which reduces the problem to the lattice point problem of number theory. The main contribution is an explicit formula for the surface energy density as a function of the deformation gradient and boundary normal. The result is valid for a large class of domains, including faceted (polygonal) shapes and regions with piecewise smooth boundaries.

Continuum formulation of the Scheutjens-Fleer lattice statistical theory for homopolymer adsorption from solution.
Homopolymer adsorption from a dilute solution on an interacting (attractive) surface under static equilibrium conditions is studied in the framework of a Hamiltonian model. The model makes use of the density of chain ends n(1,e) and utilizes the concept of the propagator G describing conformational probabilities to locally define the polymer segment density or volume fraction phi; both n(1,e) a...
متن کاملData Envelopment Analysis from simulation on the Lattice QCD using CCR model
One of the most serious principles in production theory in economic is the principle of "efficiency". Simply put, efficiency can be defined as the demand that the desired goals (outputs) are achieved with the minimum use of the available resources (inputs). In order to, distinguish the relative efficiency of organizational units with multiple inputs to produce multiple outputs, "Data Envelopmen...
متن کاملMapping of continuum and lattice models for describing the adsorption of an ideal chain anchored to a planar surface
An ideal polymer chain anchored to a planar surface is considered by using both lattice and continuum model approaches. A general equation relating the lattice and continuum model adsorption interaction parameters is derived in a consistent way by substituting the exact continuum solution for the free chain end distribution function into the lattice model boundary condition. This equation is no...
متن کاملA dynamic lattice model for heterogeneous materials
In this paper, the mechanical behavior of three-phase inhomogeneous materials is modeled using the meso-scale model with lattice beams for static and dynamic analyses. The Timoshenko beam theory is applied instead of the classical Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the mechanical properties of lattice beam connection are derived based on the continuum medium using the non-local continuum theory. T...
متن کاملA damage model incorporating dynamic plastic yield surface
In this paper, a general elastoplastic-damage constitutive model considering the effect of strain rate has been developed. The derivation of this model has been cast into the irreversible thermodynamics with internal variables within the fundamentals of Continuum Damage Mechanics (CDM). The rate effect has been involved as an additional term into the plastic yield surface (dynamic plastic yield...
